WeChat app can now track your fitness
It now seems that almost everything we use can monitor our daily on goings, whether that be gym equipment, wearable technology, fitness apps and even some forms of clothing. Well now WeChat, the popular messaging app, is getting in on the fun.
Rather than leave the tracking to the likes of Fitbit, MyFitnessPal and others, WeChat has decided to integrate communication and keeping fit into the same app. Ok so this is nothing new, however they are the helping to solve the issue which many of us face when our phones are overwhelmed with numerous apps all for different purposes. With 500 million active users across the US, Hong Kong, India, China, Thailand and Indonesia the app stands a strong chance of kicking off with a healthy amount of users – although the app for now is only available in China.
The intention of the new app, named WeChat Sports, is to be able to track your daily motion and pull this together with a variety of existing trackers like Fitbit, Nike+ Fuelband, iHealth Edge and Xiaomi Band. Once you have this data it will be easily applicable to communicate with your friends also.
To add a bit of fun to the app WeChat Sports will pull together an overall leaderboard and turn it into a social competition with your friends. There is no date yet confirmed when the app will be pushed out into the wider communities.
