RunKeeper’s Android app gets an update: Leaderboards, Facebook, in-app messaging

runkeeper-leaderboard-appOne of our favourite workout tracking services, RunKeeper, has given its Android app an update this week, including new leaderboards, Facebook integration and in-app messaging features.

The RunKeeper team has made a number of updates and added features to its iOS app recently, but Android fell behind, well until now that is. From today both Android and iOS users can integrate Facebook, meaning they’ll be able to see which contacts and Facebook friends are actively using the app and add them as friends.

You’ll then be able to see these contacts in a leaderboard, which will rank them by what they’ve completed over the past month. There’s an in-app messaging feature too and although we’re not really sure if that’s valuable, if you want to show off about how much more you’re achieving than one of your mates or arrange a run together or something, then it’s ideal.

You’ll also notice a few more subtle changes too, like an updated activities page, which groups everything you’ve done and plan on doing in one place and tweaked navigation options that have been changed with the aim of making everything much more user friendly.

The RunKeeper app is available from Google Play.
