LUMOback will monitor posture in real time and tell you when you slouch

lumo-back-posture-appLUMOback is a new gadget designed to monitor your posture, tell you when you’re slouching and collect data about the way you work over time.

According to Springwise, back pain is one of the most popular job-related disabilities over in the states, so tech designed to ensure we’re sitting up straight and taking the time to make sure we’re working in the best positon is important.

A company called LUMOback is currently working on a series of sensors and a mobile phone application, which will monitor your posture in real time and alert you when you’re slouching.

The main problem LUMOback will have is making a sensor that’s comfortable to ‘wear’ or have attached to your chair and involves little effort to set up. The device is currently a thin and flexible sensor, designed to constantly monitor your position, so when you slouch it’ll then vibrate to alert you to change your position.

We wrote about the iPosture a few weeks ago, a similar solution that comes with a WINS, or Wearable Intelligent Nano-Sensor, which monitors your stance every few seconds and like the LUMOback, it vibrates to notify the user that they’re not in the optimum position.

However, the LUMOback is different because it hooks up to a mobile app, which will monitor your posture throughout the day so you can see when you’re most likely to lose focus on your positioning. It’ll also offer you tips about how to improve the health of your back over time, so it’s much more valuable than a gadget that just vibrates every so often.
