Sony launches SmartBand, the gadget that claims to be so much more than an activity tracker

Sony SmartBandSony has finally announced their latest fitness tracker the SmartBand, which promises to offer so much more than your everyday output monitor. It was publicised earlier this year at CES that the device would be made available in the U.S. and it’s currently retailing for $99 via the Sony online store.

Ever since the news was release Sony have heavily pushed the fact that the device is a life tracker and not a fitness tracker. It wants to become your multi-accessible, everyday device notifying the user of much more than how many steps they’ve taken in a day or the calories they’ve managed to burn. All of these factors will be measured, however certain aspects like the weather, photos, music, personal notes and incoming calls are also integrated into the wrist wear.

The Sony SmartBand is designed with a silicon casing, which also helps to create the product’s waterproof shielding, allowing for those session where you really go for it.

The downside is that the device is currently only available on Android, so those iOS lovers who fancy the look of this you better hold onto your Fuelband’s or wait for the iWatch. The app is necessary to get the full experience of your SmartBand, since the device itself doesn’t have a screen so for controlling music and receiving the incoming alert vibrations your SmartBand must be Bluetooth connected. Sony’s Lifelog is also an additional feature that allows users to view their daily activates and wraps the package up nicely.
