A start-up based in the US called Noom aims to bring a whole new range of health and fitness apps to our Android handsets. Today we take a quick look at the company’s Weight Loss Coach app, which was created to help users every step of the way during their weight loss journey. But in a sea of similar apps and online tools, will anything REALLY set it apart from the rest?
The Weight Loss Coach app from Noom is similar to a number of others on the market, like increasingly popular app My Fitness Pal, but instead of making your weight loss into a never-ending odyssey, it helps you focus on the little things that you can do to drop a few pounds in the long run.
To make sure you know where you’re at now and what you can do to improve your health, you really do need to track what you get up to in the day. However, this isn’t like other apps where you have to work out the calories in that blob of salad cream, Noom’s app is much more realistic and lets you roughly guess what you’ve eaten and then tracks the calories you’ve burned automatically as you move around.
It’ll then figure out if you’ve done enough with your day and set you a number of small tasks to complete, like taking a quiz about fast food or reminding you to pick up some healthy snacks on the way home. These tasks aren’t particularly hard, but they’re specially customised to you and don’t just get you moving, but force you to think about what you’re doing with your body too.
As well as tracking what you’re up to, the Weight Loss Coach provides you with motivational tips along the way and helps you set goals and (hopefully) reach them!
If you’re finding losing weight hard at any point, you can go to the Noom online community and get help and support from others in the same boat.
Noom’s new app isn’t revolutionary, but it does provide those who’ve tried losing weight before with a simpler solution that feels much easier to keep up with and, according to the site’s testimonials, does lead to positive results!
