The fitness-tracking app launched a Healthy button and bookmarklet on Monday that gives it a social network feel. Users can now add content to their RunKeeper newsfeeds directly from sites that install the Healthy button.
Although RunKeeper started out simply tracking users runs, its vision is to map health data the same way that Facebook maps social data. It has recently opened its API and integrated with heart rate monitors, wi-fi scales, blood pressure monitors and fitness watches.
Previously, the RunKeeper newsfeed had only been used for updates about fitness milestones such as completing a run or bike ride. Having opened up to recipes, health tips and other content, RunKeeper’s presence as a social destination for all things health related is well and truly on the up. One we’ll be keeping a close eye on.
