BUPA’s iPhone health finder app provides free health advice on the go

Bupa's healthcare app provides information on virtually every medical condition

Healthcare group Bupa has launched a free iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch app giving people access to health information on the move.

Though designed primarily for Bupa’s three million members, the app provides plenty of information for non-members too, including the company’s extensive database of 600 award-winning health factsheets.

Covering conditions from ADHD through to Yellow Fever, Bupa’s health factsheets have already been viewed 20 million times online and it’s hoped that putting them on the smartphone app will extend their reach even further.

In addition to providing information about medical conditions for non-members, Bupa’s latest app lets people search for specialists, hospitals and Bupa centres in their area. Just enter the postcode, or use the iPhone’s location-based services, and up pops a list of healthcare facilities in your area.

Using Google Maps integration, the app provides directions to the nearest hospital while appointments are also automatically added to the iPhone calendar with the date and time, which is all very useful.

For users with Bupa health insurance, the app also provides a step-by-step guide to the claims process and stores membership details as well as details of Bupa advisors in one place. For added security the app itself is PIN protected so if your iPhone falls into the wrong hands personal data can’t be accessed. Available to all iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch users, the app can be downloaded at Apple’s app store.
