Learn how to use a defibrillator and perform CPR with your iPad

You might not be able to give someone a lifesaving electrical shock with your iPad just yet, but a new app will teach you how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and perform the necessary CPR afterwards.

The AED Trainer app simulates the operation of an actual defibrillator, used by medical professionals and emergency responders to shock a person’s heart back into rhythm in case of cardiac arrest. It will take users through the process if attaching the electrical pads to the correct spots on a patient’s chest, and then, if necessary, how to deliver an electric shock from the machine to help restore normal heartbeat.

As the app mimics all the features and prompts of existing live AEDs, this is a great cost saving alternative for educating healthcare providers in how to use an automated external defibrillator.

Created by Croatian emergency physician Ivor Kovic and his company Ivor Medical, the app is available on the US iTunes App store at an introductory price of $5.99.

No release date for the UK iTunes App store has been revealed so far and it is worth nothing that the app is designed to be used with a CPR mannequin and adhesive chest pads.
