Scary device tells you how much air pollution you’re breathing in

micro-pem-gadget-1A new scary device tracks how much dirty air we’re all breathing in day-in and day-out in order to prove the terrible affects all of that pollution could be having on our health.

Developed by RTI International, the air tracking gadget called the MicroPEM is worn round your neck and measures how much air pollution you’re breathing in throughout the day. There are a number of devices that monitor the environment, but at the same time it’s tracking levels of grubbiness in the streets the MicroPEM monitors how certain levels of pollution affects your physical well-being, using a range of acceleration and motion sensors.

According to Gizmodo, scientists are interested in exposing people to different levels of pollution then monitoring how they respond to different exercises. We’re not experts in this area, but imagine that the more air pollution the harder it’ll be to work-out, which is a rather depressing thought considering we all need air to, ya know, breathe.
