Well this was always going to happen, but that doesn’t make it any less of a good idea. A German company Medisana has just issued an iPhone app that works with a series of docks to enable consumers to keep a check on their health.
The app is free – although I could only find the German language version for now – users only pay for the modules. There are four in the series which monitor blood sugar, blood pressure, body temperature and weight.
Priced at EUR 99.99, the GlucoDock is a blood sugar monitor that plugs into the iPhone or iPad and enables diabetes management. Meanwhile the EUR 79.99 ThermoDock module offers contactless readings of body temperature.
For those who want to monitor their blood pressure there’s the EUR 129.99, CardioDock, while the EUR 149.99 TargetScale connects with VitaDock to help users visualize and achieve personal weight targets. According to the maker the docks can generate health reports every month, and that data can be emailed to physicians or family members at any time.
It seems that the docks are only available in Germany for now, but we will try to find a US and UK launch date asap.
